Volunteers needed! Bike for the Heart, October 11, Washington, DC

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Heart disease is the No. 1 one killer of women in the United States. Sister to Sister: The Women’s Heart Health Foundation will be taking aim at the disease with the first annual BIKE FOR THE HEART, on Sunday, October 11. The fundraising event brings focus to heart disease with one in four women today dying of heart disease every year —

I’m helping to coordinate volunteers for the event. We need Course Marshals, and people to help with Registration/Packet Pick Up, Aid Station/Product Tents, and organizing the Arena Sprinathon in the Verizon Center. For more details, see If you are interested in joining me to support this great event by volunteering, please send me a direct e-mail –

And if you really want to ride the event, that’s OK as well! Thanks in advance, Jim

If you were running the show, where would Road Nationals be? — Vote for JIM!

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I’ve heard lots of complaints about the locations selected for Road National Championships.  Now YOU are in charge.  You need to remember that your selection must service ALL the riders; even those “left coast folks”.  How would you make the selection?

Send me e-mail ( or comment directly.

Thanks for your sharing your views, and don’t forget to VOTE!

Got Money! Keep the money flowing — Vote for JIM!

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

You have MORE money for Grass Roots programs than ever before in the history of bicycle racing!

I’ve been your Eastern Regional Trustee since 2003, the same year that USA Cycling adopted the Local Association Rebate Program. Since 2003, USA Cycling has refunded $1.7 Million to the Local Associations to support local, grass roots programs. The Eastern Region has received more than $622K including more than $123K last year; we consistently receive more than 1/3 of the rebate distribution. This is the first time in history that any organization has provided this much money for local programs including the development of our Junior riders.

BTW, USA Cycling does NOT fund professional riders in Europe!

Keep the money flowing, support grass roots development — VOTE for JIM!

Got Rules? – Time to Vote!!!

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

I sent out an appeal for help identifying rules that need to be improved last week; the response has been FANTASTIC!  My initial appeal was to e-mail lists on the East Coast. This is all part of my normal Trustee summer tasking – listen to the riders and officials; identify what needs to be changed; work with the USCF Trustees to form the draft rule changes for our fall meeting. You can be part of the process. Send me the rules that YOU think should be changed and I’ll include them in my submittal to the Rules Committee. We need YOUR help to improve the rules of racing.

And don’t forget to VOTE in the Trustee Election. If you have voted, thanks for being part of the process. If you haven’t voted, this would be a great time to log onto click on My_USA_Cycling and vote. You may want to prepare for the election by reading the formal candidate statements at

My goal is to continue to represent you; I can’t represent you if you don’t vote. I’d appreciate you considering voting for me to continue serving your needs.

As always, your questions are welcome (
